Surgery, Recovery and Progress at Last - July 2010
Our thanks to everyone who has been praying for us so faithfully these last several weeks. Finally, it seems that things are getting a bit more back to ‘normal’!

As we communicated with you in early June, I (Bill) was hospitalized for nine days in Spain beginning May 15th for pancreatitis and we returned to the UK to recover. The last eight weeks have resulted in a roller coaster of health issues for me. Apparently, the pancreatic attack caused a great deal of gastrointestinal inflammation and I developed diverticulitis (our updates are starting to sound like medical journals). After an MRI, a specialist in the UK determined I should have my gall bladder removed and the surgery was performed on July 2. Thanks be to God, this was performed without complications and finally, after another week of recovery, the pain caused by the diverticulitis has started to subside.

This past week is the first since May that I have been relatively pain free. For any of you who have had long-term illnesses, we know you understand that when pain is a constant companion there are lessons to be learned about body, soul and spirit. One of the lessons I had to learn was that patience and rest were essential to recovery.  The photo here was made just a few days ago and we are grateful for the many prayers and concerns you have shared with us over these last weeks. Ky has been a great partner and caregiver during this time; I don’t know if anyone gives out medals for wives that have to put up with cranky, ill husbands, but my wife deserves one.

News from Oxford Centre for Mission Studies
When we were preparing to move to Oxford, we visited many churches, friends and individuals as I sought to communicate a bit of what goes on at the Centre. OCMS has about 120 students currently working towards their PhDs in mission research. Ky and I have been able to make contacts with students and scholars from around the world in our first three months here. My role is to both mentor and tutor these candidates.  OCMS was designed to be a place for men and women who are Christian leaders from the Global South (the Non-Western countries of the world). About one week ago a good friend of ours, Philippe Ouédraogo of Burkina Faso, successfully defended his PhD thesis. Here is his title:

A Comparative and Narrative Investigation into the Contribution of the Assemblies of God Church and Christian NGOs to Overcoming Obstacles to Female Education in Burkina Faso.

You might ask, why is this significant? What does this contribute to Christian mission in the world? Phillippe has been able to show with convincing research and evidence that the churches of Burkina Faso – one of the poorest countries in West Africa – are making a very significant contribution to the education of girls in his country. When I am asked in lectures or conferences, ‘what are the best ways to work to overcome poverty in the world?' I often talk about the importance of shaping the lives of children, but especially girls and young women.

If this sort of topic interests you, Phillippe has given me permission to post an abstract of his research on our website. You can find this on our site www.prevetteresearch.net under ‘Blog Posts’.

Thanks for praying and staying in touch with us.

Crusade Update                                                                      July 5-10, 2010
From León, Guanajuato, México

 AFTER FIRST MONTH, RESPONSE GROWS

The rains have been super heavy this week in Leon-especially last night! With the tent lot looking like a lake-and the businesses around us tightly closed-we thought of closing the tent. We were surprised as about 65 adults and kids attended. For Leon, believe me, this was exceptional.

Recently newcomers attended "Queen for a Day!" Women received not only gifts and hair-dos, some continue to attend for the first time, and are bringing their husbands!

The kids here have also been treated to a TLC and a few prizes. They are also learning about the powerful love of Jesus-and they are responding! From 10 to 25 children up to 10 years usually attend, even without a special program.

We thank you for standing with us as we proclaim JESUS as the answer. If you could see the faces, and the tears, as people pray with us in each service you would know that your prayers and support are effective!

We are privileged to be an extension of your hands in Mexico... The work is still tough, and we are still climbing the hill, but knowing you are there with us makes it so much easier!  We send our love!

David & Doris Godwin

ALSO - Pastor Elsa Atencio (Los Angeles) and team, including singer Miguel Mejía, have blessed us in ministry for nine days. We thank them for their good work!  -Thanks for praying for Ryan and Christy Thomas-they are expected to return to León soon.

Every night new people are receiving from the Lord.
 The response of the children is amazing!

People walk to the services, ride motorcycles, and come on buses. The "lake" you see is right by the tent and was formed by the tremendous rains.

Assemblies of God Foreign Missionaries with Global Teen Challenge
July, 2010
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Dear Family and Friends,  We made it!!!!!
Greetings from the Ericksons.  Many thanks to all of you who have helped us during our 10 months of itineration (some people call it furlough).  We are happy to say that we have finished well and have raised our DaryelOfficeneeded monthly and cash budget.  We could not have done it without your prayers, hospitality and financial contribution.  We are so grateful to all of you who have faithfully traveled this journey with us for more than 26 years.  Continue to believe with us for 10,000 people who will commit to praying one minute a week for us and the ministry of Global TC. Many of you are doing this and we appreciate it. We understand the power of prayer. BSCafeteria
We especially want to thank the Lord for His faith-fulness and protection as we traveled by car more than 50,000 miles.  We have already began our work with Global TC and we know that this is the place where God wants us to be for the next few years.
Lastly we want to thank all of you who prayed for our family after the death of Daryel's dad on May 17th.  He lived a long life of 86 years with more than 50 years of active ministry.  Most of it with Native Americans. Please pray for his mom as she goes through this difficult period of adjustment living without her husband of almost 63 years.
Thanks Daryel and Rachel
Motor-Home Living
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

MotorhomeFrom September 2009 to the end of May 2010 Rachel and I have been living in a motor-home that God provided.  We did not travel in it much but we used it as our home and it worked out very well.  We were able to park it at Sound Life Church in Tacoma, WA where they had all the hook-ups that we needed.  All the church pastors and staff treated us like family.              Thank you Pastor Cal and staff!!

Also, the Seniors group at the church took on our 1993 motor-home as a project and did many wonderful improvements to it. Before we left they also put on 6 new tires for our journey to Columbus, GA.  We must give a special thanks to Don and Russ Johnsen (their son is a missionary in Belgium) who organized the Seniors who helped us so much.  They also invited us to several of their activities and we learned to love and appreciate all of them during our months there.  What a blessing this family of God was.
We would not have made it without you. Thanks to all of you!!

Our daughter Amy is a high school teacher in Springfield, MO. Recently, she was asked to be the Soccer coach for the Girl's varsity team. She is excited about this opportunity.

Rachel and I will be celebrating our 38th wedding anniversary on July 1st. What a joy it has been to be married to this wonderful wife and partner in ministry so many years.  I'm so grateful for God blessing me with such a wonderful wife.

 Teen Challenge Testimony -Jason in England

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I look back on the past ten years I still find it amazing how much my life has changed. My name is Jason, and for many years my life was that of a miserable drunk. When I was 22 I thought that I had everything. I had just finished college and had started work as a graphic designer. I was also married to a woman I had met in college and we had just purchased a new apartment. Little did I know this would become my prison for the next six years. My wife left me and I felt like a person without any hope.  Because I didn't enjoy my job and with my personal problems I began to drink.  I began to drink allot. The business where I was working had to close and I began to work for another firm.  Without me realizing it God was guiding my life. The owner of this new business turned out to be a Christian.  At the beginning I never told him about my addiction but it got worse.  He invited me to his church and eventually I accepted the lord as my savior. I shared with him my addiction and he suggested that I talk to Teen Challenge. After I entered the program and my life was completely changed. I went through the TC discipleship program and I found a new reason to live. Today I'm sober and I'm working as part of the Teen Challenge staff in London, UK
 New Teen Challenge Bible College (Emerging Leaders College)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

GTCHeadquartersIn the beginning of this year Teen Challenge was donated 60 acres in Jesup, GA (236 Leadership Lane) to start a Bible College.  This college will only receive TC graduates who are interested is training to be staff or Directors overseas or in the USA.  Included with the property are 6 buildings (small gym, 3 small dorms, staff bungalow, classroom and cafeteria), 2 vans, a tractor, beds, and office equipment.  What a blessing this is to the school.
Cafeteria

In addition to our primary responsibilities overseas in the training of TC staff and Directors Rachel and I have been asked to assist in the starting of this Bible College.  We will assist the leadership team at the college in the planning of the curriculum and class schedules.

The school is a three year program where the students will be trained as TC workers as well as complete a two-year academic degree through Global University in Bible and Theology.  The curriculum is designed in such a way that a student will get a good balance between practical ministry and a good foundation of Biblical studies.

The cafeteria building has substantial water damage from a faulty roof.  We have two MAPS constBSCafeteria2ruction teams coming in July and August to repair the damage.  We are grateful to Calvary Church, Naperville, IL and Calvary Temple, Concord, CA. for coming.  These teams will work on the cafeteria buildings, staff housing and other needs around the campus.  Please pray for this important opportunity to train some of the future leaders of TC  around the world.
